Mixed media artwork featuring a 1660 chart illustrating Greek astronomer Aerates’ model of the universe by Andreas Cellarius. This piece also includes a paleontology print, unfinished artwork by William Morris, “Asteridae” from Ernst Haeckel’s Art Forms in Nature, and “Auriga” by Sidney Hall. Accented by genuine shells, coral, aragonite, dried flowers, and beaded embroidery. Beads used include Czech glass, freshwater pearls, quartz crystal point, and shells. One-of-a-kind.
These shadow boxes have the hardware attached for hanging or they can be displayed standing upright on a shelf or table.
Made using heavyweight cardstock, gemstones, beads, and natural finds, and displayed in an 14×18” blonde MDF wood and glass frame.
All of my items are ethically sourced; no living animal is ever removed from its home. I only take what I need, in addition to picking up any plastics or trash I find along the way. Ocean conservation is a mission that I give back to - 10% of net proceeds are donated to a reputable organization.
When I'm at the beach, I typically spend 4-6 hours a day beachcombing. This usually amounts to about 3-5 miles depending on how much time I spend in each shell bed. My finds are washed, soaked, washed again, and when necessary, dipped in Acid Magic. I never add oil to my shells. Every piece has been meticulously planned, laid out, readjusted, and then, usually, readjusted again for the perfect fit. These pieces are a labor of love in every way - I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
